I discovered Big Star through a friend of mine who was obsessed with them. To him they were the greatest band of all time. I didn't really have a choice but to get to know them as they were about the only band he seemed to play. This is their first song to catch my ear, and one of their best known songs. September Gurls is Pure POP. Characterized by the bittersweet melodies that was their trademark, and Alex Chilton's unique voice, filled with teenage angst.  Needless to say, their influence on later bands was huge. Look them up, check out "Thirteen", "The Ballad of El Goodo", "Don't Lie To Me", and  "In the Street". Or better yet, just download Radio City and Number One Record. You will not be disappointed.
